Here are the memories we've received posted in order of the most recent received...

Memory: Born in Buffalo on William st. over Kern's Bar, in 38. My uncle was a dancer who let me in the side door to the Zanzibar to watch and hear the hounddog broadcast, and singers like Little Richard and others perform, because at that time we lived at 73 Monroe St. a block away from the corner of William and Monroe St. We also would go to Ben's pawnshop to see him and buy records played on his radio show. My dad Lonnie worked at Carl's garage near the Peacebridge and serviced the hound's car.

I still follow the type music he played between him and the station in Galatin TN. they were the only music I knew growing up. There are DG's out here that knew him personally also. Keep his legasy going.

Memory: Just had to add my "Hound" memories. I grew up in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, an hour's drive from Buffalo to my house. The Hound was heard on radio WINE every night. Being a confirmed blues lover (after hearing Jimmy Reed's "You've Got Me Dizzy"), I could count on the the Hound to give me(and my buddies) the blues.

We had to get our blues records from "Herb Ross - The Square Toss Boss" on William street (the records were not released in Canada at that time) and on one Saturday visit the Hound was there talking with Herb. He looked cool in a Hounds-tooth suit! and thanked us for coming all that way to visit Ross's store. Nice.

I am still a fan today - and I hope that more of the radio shows are going to turn up for us to relive that time.

Memory: After our household all went to bed, I would lay in mine listening to this incredible radio show, the Sound of the Hound. It was really too late for me to be awake, as I was only 15 or 16, but I loved the music.

In 1979 when I got a chance to move to Louisiana I jumped at it. Now I live close to New Orleans work there sometimes and get to hear all the best music, especially at Jazz Fest which I attended 4 or 5 times each year.

There's a radio station in new orleans called WWOZ which reminds me some of George Lorenz's show. Can't believe I found this website...

Memory: Growing up in Brockville, Ontario and listening to the "Hound" every night of my teenage years,is one of my fondest memories. I still remember the howl of the "Hound" and the music he played on WKBW.

Memory: I grew up in Springfield, Mass. I listened to WKBW and The Hound every chance I got. You could pick up the station all over New England. I especially remember one night when The Hound told us that his mother had died-very touching. He was truly one of a kind.

Memory: In '57 life was sometimes quite boring for the radar operators or "Scope Dopes" in the 654th Aircraft Control & warning Squadron @ Brunswick NAS (ME). I was a radio operator for the sqadron so I introduced them the "The Sound of the Hound" by piping him into the Control center for their enjoyment.

Wow! Fifty thousand watts, clear channel broadcasting of the greatest sounds of the fifties.

Memory: I grew up on the East Side of Buffalo near Jefferson & Utica Streets... I listened faithfully and missed him when I left the area as a young woman in the early 1960's. So glad to find this site! I grew up to love the blues and Billie Holiday but as a kid I loved Little Richard, Chuck Berry, early Ray Charles, Elvis! ... Charles Brown's "Merry Christmas Baby"... My first 78 record was Ruth Brown's "Mama He Treats Your Daughter Mean." Oh my! the memories! Yes Hound Dog was a big part of my growing up musically! Great to find this site!

Memory: When I was in high school...About every night the Hound would be the last voice I heard before falling to sleep...He gave me a relaxing mood with his music...It's like I had not problem or worry when I listened to him play my favorite tunes...One of the first 45'S I Purchased was "BIG HEAVY"....LONG LIVE GEORGE LORENZ

Memory: WKBW was the station I listened to as a teenager from Toronto in the mid 50's. It was the only station that played classic Rythym and Blues dance songs by artists such as Big Joe Turner, Clyde McFatter,The Clovers,Spaniels,Five Satins, Fats Domino,Little Richard, (before Elvis) just to name a few.In 1956 four of us guys drove out to the Zanzibar in Bufalo in my 1950 Hudson to see the Hound in action behind a glass encased area in the lounge. As white Canadians we had no problem mixing with the predominently black audience, who like us, really enjoyed the music.

At that time the only place to buy their 78rpm records was at RABS music store in Bufalo. Still have some today. We promoted R&B in Canada ever since. Thanks to The Hound. HANK

Memory: "Movin 'n Groovin at the Zanzabar man."

Throughout the 50s, we didn't get into a car that the radio wasn't set on "KB" for the Hound. And no one I knew listened to or allowed anything but The Hound, until He'd sign off, then who cared what you listened to. Lookin for Mad Man Munce TVs. One night in the winter of 56-57 he played Long Tall Sally seemed like some 30 times in succession. (Don't ask who's record, there wasn't only one was there?) We were in Auburn and down around Ithaca. What was it 50,000 watt tower of power? Even at the Great Lakes boot camp there was a following. Ya just didn't miss The Hound. Then lost track of him after boot camp in 59 'n 60.
