Here are the memories we've received posted in order of the most recent received...
Submitted by: Herb F. Terry From: Cobourg, Ontario, Canada Memory: Fifty years ago, when I lived in Toronto, ON., I sent a cheque to George to purchase his "SOUVENIR ALBUM". He sent me a signed copy with the inscription, To - HF Terry - a TO cat who digs "The Dog". Being the great promoter that he was, he never cashed my cheque! Needless to say, I spread the word about this great D.J.
Submitted by: Richard Wasiura From: West Seneca, New York Memory: I grew up in the Black Rock section of Buffalo and went to Riverside High, class of 1959. What a great time to experience the growth of rock and roll and the main source of good music was the Hound. We hung out at the Amherst Dairy Bar and the owner lets us select the records for the juke box. While other place were playing Pat Boone, we had Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino and all the other greats were heard on the Houndog show. Hi style was absolutely great even the commercials were worth paying attention to. Handome Harry,Pal AL , etc. This website is great. I wish that George had a better exhibit at the Rock and Roll hall of fame. He helped some many artists get attention in the northeast.
Submitted by: SID PORTER From: Highland Falls, New York Memory: I remember my friend and I waiting till late at night to be able to get WKBW down here ...... later on I even made a remote speaker that I could hide under my pillow, where my parents couldn't see it. I still remember how he would play a good record over and over again ...... my friend & I started doing the same thing at home. I remember the commercials for "Jive 7 wine' and he Hound singing along. Young people today will never have the memories that we have. RIP Hound ...... you are still missed
Submitted by: Tad Richards From: Saugerties, NY Memory: Cruising with friends around Woodstock, NY, 1957. The Hound breaks "Get a Job." We knew The Hound. A song that great, he'd be playing it again. Cruising on into the night, staying in areas where WKBW's signal was strong on the car radio, waiting for him to play it again and again. He did not disappoint.y25t
Submitted by: mary ann cartner From: Fulton, NY Memory: I used to see the HOUND drive in his convertable south on Herman St. while I sat on the porch steps. I'd wave to him, he waved back and sometimes beeped his horn. He was so cool. The DJs of old are gone and missed. So simple were they and uplifting. I LOVED Stan Roberts. I wish we could tune back and hear all of beloved "daily mood lifters". Mary Ann of Herman St.

Submitted by: Bruce Taylor From: Courtice, Ontario, Canada Memory: I don't remember the exact year but I was listening to the Hound on WKBW, which I did every night in the late 50's, and for some reason this night he had no coffee. Well, he played Santo and Johnny's new recording of 'Sleepwalk' 13 times in a row until someone brought him some coffee. I thought that was amazing, just loved listening to the guy.
Submitted by: Graham Tomkins From: Visalia, CA Memory: I first heard BOBBY MOORE & THE RHYTHM ACE's song SEARCHING FOR MY LOVE. After Lorenz on WBLK played it he said, "So nice you gotta hear it twice." and he immediately played it again. I was growing up in Ajax ON just east of Toronto. I bought LONESOME by MARION and THE BIG HEAVY by COZY EGGLESTON. Thank you for including EASY GO by LITTLE WILLIE LITTLEFIELD. Try to not tap your toe listening to that one. Lorenz had an ear for great R&B sounds. G. ~~
Submitted by: Francis Conmy From: Buffalo, New York Memory: Joined the Army in July 1957. I was doing basic training @ Ft. Meade Maryland, located between Washington D.C.,and Baltimore. We made a field trip of 3 wks. to AP Hill in Va.,lived in tents up on a hill.Drilled all day,and went back to tents to settle in for the night when I heard this music coming from the tent next to us,clear as if I sitting at home in Buffalo, then the unmistakable voice of the Hound inviting all of us to listen to these great sounds.
